The politics of religious hypocrisy

Jobs are scarce these days as the economy remains challenged by restricted credit markets and consumers who either can’t spend more or are afraid to do so. People look to pay day loans and secured loans to get by in the short run, but they need to retain their jobs in order to do that. Let’s not wish joblessness on anybody these days who doesn’t deserve it, OK? Try to get along out there, people.
But what about Fort Myers Beach Town Manager Scott Janke? The Florida resident has lost his job, and it had nothing to do with cutbacks of his performance. It’s because his wife Anabela Mota Janke is a porn star!
Excuse me?
The couple recently appeared on the CBS television program “The Early Show” so that the public at large could be made aware of this travesty. Scott Janke married Anabela Mota (stage name Jazella Moore) in October of 2008, and things have apparently been going well for them ever since. However, that was until the mayor of Fort Myers Beach and the town council found out what Anabela Janke does for a living. They unanimously decided to vote Scott Janke out of office. He was given six months of pay as severance.
Nope. Nope. Way too distracting.
According to Fort Myers Beach Mayor Larry Kiker, “Our issue is the situation town was put in in terms of how effective we can govern and whether or not it this was going to serve as a distraction for that, and we felt like it would.” Clearly, that’s ridiculous. Scott Janke was a valued member of the town council. Fort Myers Beach isn’t even a sleepy town like some would try to make it out to be, blogs Kyle Munzenrieder for the Miami New Times, so where’s the real problem. It’s not like the money shot would suddenly be taught in area schools. People are way too uptight.
OK, so southwest Florida may be clenching. Lee County, in which Fort Myers Beach is located, once ticketed a man for wearing a Speedo on the beach. But according to Munzenrieder, Fort Myers Beach sports “a strip club, a Hooters, nightclubs, tattoo parlors and head shops.” There’s room for Anabela Janke in town.
Scott Janke was even cooperative
He truly didn’t want there to be any difficulty:
When this story began to break, I was actually called by a local reporter, who also called the mayor about a day before he was going to actually print these articles. And the mayor and I chatted on the phone. Because of my ethics, I said, “I’m willing to resign with compensation if the town council thinks it will help the community not be so distracted.”

But that doesn’t mean that Scott and Anabela Janke weren’t treated unfairly. If I were to wager a guess as to what’s going on here, I’d say that the stench of religio-sexual repression is ripe within the town council of Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
People are stepping up with support
According to “The Early Show,” Scott and Anabela Janke have received “hundreds of E-mails from people saying the town shouldn’t have fired him.” You think? If the man was doing his job and nobody was in any danger, why was he fired? Was it just too difficult for the other male council members to do their jobs without drooling? Did they fear the wrath of an imaginary being? Were their wives ramping up the “sleep on the couch the rest of your life” pressure? I don’t know, but I do know that this stinks.
Munzenrieder nails this to the wall, as far as I’m concerned:
But why do we even care that people do porn anymore? It’s 2009. We live in the age of sexting, XTube, and YouPorn. Do you know how many people can be seen naked, if not f*&$*ng, online these days? Way too many people, including a lot who shouldn’t be, but that’s beside the point.
And here’s a shock: People who choose to do porn shouldn’t be chased out of town, their jobs, and, in this case, their spouses shouldn’t either, just because they’re porn stars. There are a lot worse sins in the world.
Wait, time out.
Sin? OK, I understand having to use language the religulous will understand, but I’m certainly not five years old anymore. I’m an adult, and sin is a concept humans were taught to obsess over during the race’s infancy. Puh-leez. Rules of morality were subverted by religion. They’ve began to appear immediately after the time humans discovered that attacking each other like animals didn’t help them survive the elements, dinosaur attack, etc. Even porn stars understand morality, Fort Myers Beach. And as Munzenrieder puts it,
Porn stars are people too. If you prick them, do they not bleed? If you hurt them, do they not cry? If you f%^& them, do they not C*&? Well, obviously they do, but don’t you too?
Exactly. Now the Jankes may need pay day loans and secured loans for help until Scott Janke gets back on his feet. If so, he can apply here as easily as you can:
